Good Afternoon
Hello Everyone. Let's get started with your questions.
Census and Taxes

Hello Denise, Amber and Annah,
I have two questions:
1. Are we supposed to send the Census Form to the US Census Bureau? I have received a letter from them and I am not sure whether it applies to me.
2. Regarding federal tax return, when is it due to the IRS? As far as I remember from our orientation in Belgrade, it is due in 2011. Should I do anything before I leave the US?
Thank you for your answers.
RE: Census and Taxes
Dear Milena,
Thank you for your questions.
1) No do not fill out the census form
2) Your Federal Tax return form is due this year by June 15. Not 2011. You will need to file the form you just received this year by June 15. Even if you did not enter the US until January of 2010. You need to fill out tax forms because our program spent money on you in 2009. Specifically we purchased international plane tickets for you to fly to the US and your January/February stipend had to be processed in 2009 so you all would receive the check, and your $250 settling in allowance was also processed in 2009 (this is technically considered income), so these expenses need to be claimed. I hope this is helpful.
Fellows will have to file twice once for 2009 (papers you should have already received) and for 2010 (which you will receive next year in your home country.
More on Taxes

Hello,
I know that we shouldn't ask you questions about Tax forms filling, but, since as I am still expecting my SSN, if I fill the form after two or three weeks, won't it be too late, or should I fill in now the form asking the Tax department to give me time to send it until June? I am confused about it. Please, can you clarify my situation.
RE: More on Taxes
Just to repeat you will need to file your taxes by June 15 of this year. This will give you plenty of time to file. So this should not be a problem if you expect to receive your SSN in the next few weeks.
